Seniors prepare to take the Carlmont stage one last timeCarlmont’s annual instrumental music spring concert series is just around the corner.
The concert series includes performances from concert band and string orchestra on May 17, the symphony band and symphony orchestra on May 18, and jazz ensembles and jazz combos on May 19. Tickets to see the concerts can be purchased on the Carlmont instrumental music website. |
Block schedule provides new opportunitiesOn April 26 and April 27, the Carlmont schedule will be switched to a block schedule due to standardized testing.
This change was made to allow sophomores and juniors to complete their CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) testing in English, science, and math. The testing block schedule includes zero period for 55 minutes on both days. Then, the first day has additional periods one, three, and five for 105 minutes each. |
Carlmont Academic Foundation works toward the ideal classroomThe Carlmont Academic Foundation (CAF) is an organization made up of parents and volunteers who raise money to financially support the school’s enriching programs, such as instrumental music and the biotechnology institute (BTI).
“The money we raise allows smaller class sizes and sustains many innovative programs because it’s important that students have more class choices,” said April Carlson, the CAF president. |
Dance auditions create a fun environment for studentsThe Carlmont dance auditions were held in the dance studio from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 7.
They were open to any incoming or current Carlmont students who want to join the intermediate or advanced dance classes. Thirty-four students auditioned and roughly half of them were incoming Carlmont students. |
Spring musical ends with positive attitudesThe Carlmont spring musical, "Anything Goes," held its opening night on Feb. 9 and ended with its last showing on Feb. 12.
Directed by Stephanie Maysonave and produced by Genevieve Tep, the musical gave Carlmont students of all grades the opportunity to display their love of performing to their families, friends, and fellow peers. The story took place in the 1930s aboard an American ocean liner where relationships between six different characters unfolded. |
ASB strives for inclusivity in spirit eventsThe typical student recognizes the sound of the cheerleading team at sports games and sees the frantic dash to buy tickets for homecoming. But do these prove the existence of school spirit, or are they merely stereotypical phases done at certain times of the year?
At Carlmont High School, ASB coordinates spirit events and rallies the other students in order to make the school a fun place to be at and make their events successful in participation. |
